    Chinnamasta Kali Temple Assam

Do you want your own destiny to be blessed by the divine?

Chinnamasta Temple at Buriganga, Doboka, is a very ancient Hindu temple dedicated to the ferocious goddess Kali. The Chinnamasta Kali temple is one of the major pilgrimage destinations for those on a spiritual journey to Northeast India with great showcases of devotion, local stories and mystery.

    Our Visit to Chinnamasta  Temple

I was woken by the loud thumps from my son Aaditya's dancing. He told me that his mother and uncle were already prepared and waiting. Without delay, I got up, bathed and joined them for our Sunday trip to the famous Chinnamasta Temple.

    Chinnamasta Kali Temple

Driving through Doboka Town and turning onto the bypass road, the beautiful views catch my attention. I felt deeply holy as we got nearer the temple. I rushed and purchased a puja thali from a local store and stood inside the temple ready to adopt a spiritual attitude.

Dimasa Tantric Architecture of the Temple

As we approached the temple we saw its beautiful dome-like peaks. The mesmerizing structure gave us an experience of the colourful Kachari kingdom. Assam Tourism's character and values are more accurately shown by the unique style reflecting the rich heritage of Northeast India.

The Garbhagriha of the Headless Idol

Seeing the Goddess beheaded inside the temple caused us to gasp in amazement. While she was headless (and it was blood pouring from the neck), the goddess glowed with a menacing, albeit completely divine, force.

My son Aaditya was petrified, so much so that he clung to me by surprise at the sight of the headless idol. We went to a Dimasa priest at the temple and enquired from him as to how this idol of Chinnamasta Kali happened to have been placed in this temple.

    Legends of Maa Chinnamasta Idol

The Dimasa priest described how the ancient idol was unearthed from underground while digging soil centuries ago by the people. Since then, devotees have visited this divine idol as it fulfills all their wishes. My wife was happy to learn about the historic significance of the Chinnamasta Temple.

A trip to Chinnamasta Temple can never be termed as complete unless we visit the flowing falls of Akashiganga. With the vibe from the spiritual visit still so fresh, we continued our travels to the charming Akashiganga Waterfall which was just a short drive away.
