After my second visit to Umrangso and Panimur, I can comfortably say it was one of my favorite travel destinations in Assam. This itinerary takes you through cascading waterfalls, flickering bonfires and vibrant tribal culture that thrives in the region. You will enjoy this trip to the same degree that I did.
I recommend spending Day 1 visiting the major attractions and waterfalls and on Day 2 indulge in the refreshing, crystal-clear waters of the Kopili River and vibrant tribal culture. And do try the delicious local foods of the Dimasa and Karbi communities in these 2 days.

How do you envisage spending your two days?
I relished fried silkworms with my hands on the hills chatting with the locals as they narrated their Dima Hasao life. As icing on the cake, no visit to Dimasa World is complete without having Khari, Mudru and Hon.
However, I was equally drawn to the charm of modern indulgence. The futuristic Gardens by the Kopili River had me spellbound, its breezy beauty and tranquil surrounding nature felt magical.
As a contemporary explorer I stood at the threshold of tradition and luxury waiting to experience yet another Umrangso and Panimur Sling.
There are infinite options for experiencing Umrangso and Panimur, but this upcoming itinerary offers the best of many worlds-immersive camping under the stars, indigenous culture and must-see attractions and all experiences that will completely captivate you on your first visit!
Umrangso and Panimur Itinerary Overview
Day 1 – Panimur Waterfalls, Umrangso Golf Field, Amur Falcon Roosting Site, The Camping Village.
Day 2 – Tularam Cave, Pushringdi Island Resort, Miyungma Daogah Waterfall, Khangdon Dam, Khanduli Tea Estate, Umrangso Bazar.
Umrangso and Panimur Itinerary - Day 1
Dima Hasao, a hilly district in Assam, calls out to the globe-trotters from all over the world to see the stunning beauty of Panimur Waterfalls. I found it to be a calm picnic site with virgin beauty having the best site to be in the lap of nature.
You can reach the destination by departing from Guwahati or Haflong to maximize your experience. Arrive in Lanka or Lumding by morning and reach Panimur by 9 AM, giving yourself a full day to explore its mesmerizing landscapes.
The Majestic Panimur Waterfalls
Panimur looks like a piece of paradise with its stunning waterfalls. Only 100 meters off the road the roaring sound of the waterfall over the rocks announces its arrival long before you can see it.
The falls cascade down the Kopili River with the water color changing from turquoise to blue seasonally which is just gorgeous. You can see the waterfall standing at around 50 meters high surrounded by the forests and dark cliffs that encircle it.
For first-visitors, there are plenty of things to do alongside experiencing the breathtaking sights.

Escape to the Golf Field in Umrangso
Umrangso presents a major attraction through its extensive golf course facility. The Golf Field stands at a distance of 103 km from the administrative center of Dima Hasao located in Haflong.
You will see a nice podium stage which features a restaurant when you arrive.
The golf area spans across a vast territory which provides various recreational possibilities to guests.

- Pedal Boat Ride: You may go joyously paddling on the blue waters of the Kopili River in a typical movie-style pedal boat. (Approx. ₹300 per ride for 30 minutes)

Amur Falcon Roosting Site Umrangso
Do you know Amur falcons roost in the forests near the NEEPCO reservoir at Umrangso?
Amur Falcon migrates to Africa in thousands and reaches India from October to November. The birds take a break and rest at Umrangso during migration for some time. The birds move around plantation areas until dusk at which time they return to roosts by around 5 PM. I managed to observe these birds while they circled through the air.
As it was already 5 pm and was dark I drove to the Camping Village and booked a tent to rest for the night.
The Camping Village: A Marvellous Creation
Before I continue talking about Day 2 of my itinerary let me first mention The Camping Village, which is located just a few kilometers from the Golf Field Umrangso.
I had never seen such a tranquil and lively camping place as Camping Village. This place is a year-round campsite with a cafe and watersports. I paid ₹1499 for an overnight stay that included breakfast and a warm bonfire experience.

I have to confess the best moment was the atmosphere when many travelers sat around the bonfire with live music playing.

I sat by the bonfire, warming myself despite the lake’s lingering chill. I soon fell asleep that night under a canopy of stars feeling utterly one with nature.
Umrangso and Panimur Itinerary - Day 2
After a night-long sleep, I started Day 2 of my trip to Umrangso and Panimur with coffee and breakfast snacks accompanied by the riverside view. Then, I swiftly packed my bag and made my way to Tularam Cave from the Camping Village.
Umrangso Dima Hasao-Tularam Cave
I was mesmerized to observe the Tularam Cave, a fine rock-hewn place with lots of historical significance as the hideout of Tularam Senapati. The cave is an adventure of its own: I hiked through the woods and crossed a wooden bridge before entering huge rooms in the cave where sound reverberated.
Adventure travelers find the surrounding terrain attractive because of its proximity to a waterfall.
Pushringdi Island Resort Umrangso
Pushringdi Island Resort is a stunning floating island haven in the Kopili River Dam (Umrang Dam). This is the perfect summer getaway for all when you are willing to chill, have an adventure and take in serene panoramic views.
Everything constructed from wood, plenty of water activities and a plethora of restfulness right along the river bank made it feel very homey and inviting. You can position yourself on the other side of the island, enjoying its charm with ferry access available for visitors.
Miyungma Daogah Waterfall Umrangso
Miyungma Daogah Waterfall adds another natural jewel to Assam Tourism in Umrangso. Large amounts of visitors are in awe of the waterfall set against a picturesque jungle backdrop. It is a site blessed with dense jungles and vegetation that make it an ideal picnic spot.
Khangdon Dam and Hydroelectric Project on Kopili River Umrangso
I got a chance to visit the beautiful Khangdon Dam, a 50 MW hydroelectric project located on the Kopili River in Assam. Khangdon Dam is part of the Kopili Hydro Electric Project in Dima Hasao India.
Khangdon Dam is operated by NEEPCO to provide electricity in Assam. The view of the Kopili River from Khangdon Dam is truly captivating so on your trip don't forget these spots.
Khanduli Tea Estate: Hidden Tea Gardens in Meghalaya
The Khanduli Tea Estate is located nearly 28 km away from the Umrangso Golf Field on the border of Assam and Meghalaya. I walked through the tea gardens in the estate to see the methods of organic tea processing that were used there. The estate also cultivates rare herbal plants used in traditional medicine.
Umrangso Bazar: A Hub of Tribal Food
Umrangso Bazar is located in the heart of town and is where the locals meet the travelers to share the town’s essence. The market is not just a paradise for food lovers from fresh organic produce to handmade crafts They have a unique tradition including Dimasa and Karbi food and you can buy traditional handmade products such as mekhela, bags, baskets, etc

Falcon Festival: A Festival to Conserve Amur Falcon
Since 2015, the Falcon Festival has brought cultural festivities to the Umrangso Golf Field while promoting the conservation of the Amur Falcon. The three-day event promotes the preservation of a migratory bird that is endangered, the Amur falcon, which has been heavily hunted in this area.
There are traditional sports, cultural displays, a beauty pageant; you get the drift and of course concerts and stalls selling handicrafts. The festival ends with a frenetic and joyful finale in the Grand Music Festival; a concert with some of the country's more seasoned bands.
Water Carnival: A Water Sports Fest
The Annual two-day water carnival of Umrangso town is celebrated on two days of the last weekend of October. Balanced with water adventure and a display of the indigenous culture this grand festival invites tourists to experience the natural gusto of Umrangso.

Best Season to Visit Umrangso and Panimur
October to March is the perfect time to visit Umrangso and Panimur as it’s cooler than the humid summer months. Winters become the peak season because the climate conditions reach their best state.
If you can handle the rain and humidity as the rocks will be slippery, visit during June and July for cheaper prices and fewer crowds.
How to reach Umrangso and Panimur Waterfalls
Umrangso is also a gateway to the Garampani Wildlife Sanctuary, rich in biodiversity and island adventure. Whereas Panimur waterfall is considered the Niagara of Northeast is worth visiting.
Most people arrive in Umrangso and Panimur by various means of transport. Don't miss the fact that the distance between Umrangso and Panimur Waterfall is just 32 km away from one another.
- By Air: The closest airports are Silchar Airport (around 265.40 km from Panimur Waterfalls) and Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (240 km from Umrangsho). I prefer using MakeMyTrip to find the best-value flights at the cheapest based on dates.
- By Train: Travelers can access Umrangso and Panimur through railway access points at Lumding railway station and Lanka stations.
- By Bus: If you’re going to Umrangso or Panimur consider arriving in Lanka by bus. It takes 1 hour and 24 minutes to reach Umrangso and 50 minutes to Panimur Waterfalls. Use redBus to book your bus as they offer affordable prices.
- By Taxi: Roads are so well connected in Assam that it gives a boost to Assam Tourism. You can easily pay fares using Google Pay or any other UPI method.
